Breaking up the lines of a wall of cabinets before refacing

The finished product – cabinets refaced after bumping center cabinet up and out

This was a cabinet refacing project in the Naperville – Aurora area. The customer had an old range hood mounted underneath the “builder grade” oak cabinets. She wanted the cabinets refaced in white and also wanted to add crown molding and break up the straight line of cabinets. If I were to simply raise the cabinet above the hood, the problem becomes how to deal with the crown molding on the sides of the cabinet. The solution was to bring the cabinet up and out.

Finished product. In addition to the elevation change and the crown, I added seed glass door in the corners. Hard to believe these were plain old oak cabinets a few hours before this
