This kitchen refacing project in Elgin started with basic 30″ high wall cabinets in builder’s oak. Although “white shaker” is very popular, this customer liked the simplicity of the shaker style but wanted natural wood. They also wanted to bring the cabinet boxes up to the ceiling.
Before refacing I built a row of 12″ high cabinets and installed them on top of the existing wall cabinets. Then I refaced with solid wood – maple in this case. You can see that natural maple has a bit of shade variation in the wood. I think it’s a great, warm look without being too “rustic”.
Besides refacing the cabinets in solid wood and replacing all the drawer fronts and cabinet doors, we also added door panel details on the back of the peninsula.
Although “white shaker cabinets” aren’t going away any time soon, natural maple in a shaker style is another classic look worth exploring
