This home was built in the early 90’s on Geneva’s west side. The cabinets were originally dark oak that someone had painted white. The ‘cathedral arch’ door style and large spaces between the doors still gave the cabinets a dated feel. As far as functionality, the owners really wanted a double waste-bin pullout but didn’t want to sacrifice more storage space than necessary.
They chose a simple Shaker style door in Classic White and I reconfigured the lower 3 drawers next to the sink into a double waste bin.
The island was a basic block with 4 drawers and 4 cabinets that were hard to access.
We made up for the lost storage that we used for the waste bin by converting the cabinets into large drawers. We also installed panel details on the back and sides of the island. The black color looks super-sharp contrasted with the white on the main cabinets.
They ended up with a really dramatic look that they can enjoy for years while enhancing the value of their home. I started the project on a Monday morning and was finished Friday by noon.
