Contrasting Island
Lisa and Adam had nice granite countertops and Professional grade Viking appliances. The cabinets, however, were sort of a faux cherry that didn’t do much for the look of the kitchen.
We decided on a solid color “linen” cabinet with glaze on the outside cabinets, and a contrasting island in a black, (actually “Espresso” ) rub-through for the island. I also converted the cabinets on the island into large drawers and custom-built a bookshelf to fit underneath the countertop overhang.
Here’s the before pic of the island:
and the “After” pic:
The “look” we were going for was to make the island feel like a separate piece of furniture, and I think we nailed it.
Also remember, this is all refacing. Granted there was a lot of work that went into transforming that island, but we kept the granite, kept the footprint, no demolition and minimal disruption.
